Menstrual Equity

One in three young Canadians experiences period poverty. Globally, over 500 million people lack access to safe, affordable menstrual products. At Hey Black Girl! we address this crisis through a comprehensive approach that focuses on education, advocacy, and distribution. As a Black-led, climate-conscious organization, we are committed to providing free, sustainable menstrual products, with a focus on reusable options, to Black menstruators in Canada and beyond. To date, we have distributed over 2,000 reusable menstrual products across Canada and Zimbabwe through community outreach, educational events, and our annual giveaway. Our work goes beyond product access. We advocate for open, gender-inclusive conversations around menstruation to reduce stigma and promote equity. This includes using inclusive language and creating dialogue that involves both menstruators and non-menstruators to foster collective awareness and understanding.Through accessible, culturally relevant education, we share knowledge about menstrual hygiene, product options, and the long-term benefits of sustainable products. We believe in choice and informed decision-making, ensuring that all Black menstruators have the tools and support they need to manage their cycles confidently and with care.
